Custom Cast Iron Railing System – Multi-Level Deck & Entry

This project was a full custom railing system built for a multi-level rear deck and entry area. The goal was to create something that felt cohesive from top to bottom while holding up to everyday use and Chicago weather.

All railings were fabricated from cast iron and fully welded — no prefab panels or bolt-together sections. Every piece was cut, laid out, and built specifically for this structure to ensure proper fit, alignment, and consistent spacing throughout.

The project included the upper balcony railing, stair railings, lower deck enclosure, and entry gate. One of the main challenges was carrying the design cleanly across multiple levels while keeping everything aligned visually and structurally. Each section was built to flow into the next so the entire system reads as one continuous piece, not separate add-ons.

Attention was put into the details — tight joints, clean welds, and solid anchoring — especially at transitions like stairs, corners, and elevation changes. The structure was designed to be heavy-duty and long-lasting, not just decorative.

This is the kind of work that can’t be pulled off the shelf. It’s measured, fabricated, and installed to fit the space exactly — built once, built right.
