This interior railing was designed and fabricated as a sculptural bougainvillea-inspired railing built directly into the staircase.

Instead of using a standard picket or panel layout, the railing was shaped to follow the natural movement of vines growing through the stair opening. Each branch, vine, leaf, and small detail was individually formed, fitted, and welded by hand to create an organic flow while still functioning as a solid stair guard.

The work required careful layout so the piece felt natural without looking random. Every vine and branch had to land in the right place structurally while still carrying the visual movement of bougainvillea across the staircase.

This is functional metalwork built as artwork — a railing system that provides safety, but also becomes the main architectural feature of the room.
